Last November, once the election was completed and everything had settled down, the Democrats looked at the numbers and saw they held the Presidency and had enormous majorities in Congress….even filibuster proof majorities in the Senate. They thought they were handed something by the American public that allowed them to do whatever they wanted; that vast majorities of the American public had given them a mandate and was in agreement with everything they believed in. As the President’s right-hand man Rahm Emanuel said at the beginning of this year, “Never let a good crisis go to waste”. Yet what they didn’t realize was that it wasn’t so much a stamp of approval on their policies but instead much of it was a rejection of the previous administration and a rejection of the Republicans that controlled Congress through 2006. But Democrats didn’t see this. They thought they had been given a mandate to remake the United States.

So with that in mind, they felt they had to act quickly to pass such items as cap-and-trade and health care reform. Obama came out and said all of this had to be passed and he had to sign these things before the end of summer. But ask yourself, why would such enormous projects and undertakings that would reshape the United States for decades to come need to be completed in record time? Why were the Democrats so adamant that these things needed to be completed before the August recess of Congress? It reminds me of the once Baltimore Colts packing up their moving trucks during the middle of the night and moving the team to Indianapolis. The answer is because politics, as we know it today, is just one big game being played with Americans’ hard-working money.

And don’t get me wrong, it’s not just the Democrats that I feel are this way. I have no doubt in my mind that the Republican politicians we have there today, if given the same majorities as Democrats now have, would not be doing something similar. You don’t believe me? Well look at the first six years of the Bush administration when Republicans controlled Congress. Those Republicans were not the fiscally conservative Republicans we once knew. They could spend our money as fast as anybody as is evidenced by our growing deficits during that time. It just so happens, though, that the Democrats of today have taken it to a whole other level which the voters of last November never dreamed could have happened. If the voters last November would have had the foresight to see this coming, the results of last year’s election would have been quite different.

And that leads us to precisely why there was such a huge push by Obama and the Democratic leaders in Congress to try and pass all these initiatives like cap-and-trade and health care by the August Congressional recess. They could begin to see that independent, conservative Americans that helped them win their majorities were beginning to question and denounce their proposals. The tide was beginning to turn. The Democrats needed to pass these things as early as possible. They had a feeling things weren’t going to be pretty when they had to go back to their home districts to face their constituents at the town halls in August. They would have rather had these things passed and signed by Obama before facing the public.

Now we are seeing an even harder push to pass these measures yet in 2009, especially health care. We have to still ask ourselves, why do Obama and the Democrats want health care to so badly be voted upon this year? AGAIN, THE ANSWER IS THE GAME THAT IS CALLED TODAY’S POLITICS.

The Democrats call this game “There is an election in November 2010 and we can not vote upon any controversial measure in an election year”. But as I said before, I think Republicans would be playing this same type of game if the roles were reversed. It just wouldn’t be with health care but instead with some other initiative.

Our Congressional leaders of today (whether they are Democrat or Republican) will not vote upon any controversial measure in an election year. The reason is that they know it will cost them votes in that November’s election. That it will still be fresh in voter’s minds. They want to hold onto their jobs. Not because they are there to best serve the American people, but instead so they can keep playing THE GAME.

If they pass health care yet this year, and especially if they were to pass it this summer when they originally wanted, the chances are that many of the American public would have forgotten it by the time they get to the ballot box if given a year or more. That’s the way our Congressional leaders think and that is why they do not want to vote on such an enormous issue in an election year. That, my friends, is just another example of THE GAME.

What we need to do is take this game away from them. We need to take back our country….the country your and my grandparents and great-grandparents helped build and fight for so that we would have it better than they did. And now it is our duty to not let their efforts go to waste. We need to make sure we leave our country in a better position for our children. And to do that, we need to get those in Washington out and get rid of the game. Only then can we ensure the future of our children in this great country.

STAND UP AMERICA AND TAKE YOUR COUNTRY BACK!!!

I started this blog in order to compare and contrast the profound and vast differences of our country’s leaders today compared to our Founding Fathers. What would our Founding Fathers say if they were here today to witness what has transpired in our country over the past 200-plus years? Do you think any of them would be encouraged by the way our current government operates and even more so, our current leaders? I think each one of them would exhale a sigh of great disbelief.

On the one hand, we have our Founding Fathers: George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, and John Jay. On the other hand, we have the leaders of this decade: Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Arlen Specter, Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, Larry Craig, and Joe Biden. Heck, many of these leaders of this decade were also leaders of the past decade and the decade before that.

You see, that is what is part of what is wrong with our country today. These people we have in office are life-long politicians who are drunk on the money, fame, and prestige that comes with being in Washington today. They are nothing like our Founding Fathers who knew what it was like to fight for the very existence of their country from its infancy…..those great men who created our great Constitution. Today’s leaders have turned the Constitution upside down and inside out, the very same Constitution that our Founding Fathers devoted their lives to make and hoped that would withstand the test of time.

Well the test of time is upon us, my fellow Americans. Either we can stand by helplessly and let our Constitution and the principles under which it was founded be trampled upon by the leaders of today or we can get up off of our feet and demand that our leaders act in the way that our Founding Fathers would have hoped they would act. And if the leaders of today won’t listen to us Americans who have elected them to office then I say it’s time we throw the bums out.

They have been there long enough….over thirty years in some cases. George Washington believed after two terms as President it would be best for the country if someone else served even though there were no term limits on the President at that time. If two terms was good enough for our First President, then two terms should be good enough for anyone that serves. And if they won’t follow those principles themselves, then it is our duty to make sure we impose term limits on them by electing someone else. Because we know damn well these career politicians we have today in office will never vote for term limits.

It’s up to you…it’s up to me…..it’s up to us…..STAND UP AMERICA AND TAKE YOUR COUNTRY BACK!!!
